A Mother to My Mother

Malka Pischanitskaya was born in Romanov, Ukraine in 1931. As the war starts, Malka and her mother manage to escape. They hid in fields, forests and haylofts. The 2 of them find refuge in starngers, who become like a second family. During the journey, Malka does everything she can to keep her and her mother alive. After the war, Malka returns to her town of Romanov, where she graduates high school in 1950. She continued her education in Zhitomir, earning a high school teaching diploma from Ivan Franko State Univeristy in 1954. Malka immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1975, which is where she still lives today
