Mina Wolkowicz was born in Piotrkow Trybunalski, Poland in 1920. When the war started, Mina and her husband, Herman Geisler, lived in the Soviet Union but were sent to Gulag. They had a daughter, Lily, in 1943. Herman later died on the front lines. After the war, Mina met her new husband Pinchas Wolkowicz and they had a son, Henry in 1948. Mina, Pinchas, Henry and Lily immigrated to to Montreal, Canada in 1949. Mina wrote many articles. She wrote a memoir called My Life in the Gulag which is a part of Before All Memory Is Lost: Woemn’s Voices from the Holocaust. After retiring, Mina started sculpting and painting and moved to Cambridge, Ontario before dying in 2003.
