Julius Jakab was born in Cluj, Romania in 1923. In 1944, Julius was drafted into the Hungarian army before being captured by the Nazis and sent to Dachau concentration camp. After the war, when Julius had no family left in Hungary, he moved to Argentina. There, he met his wife Vilma and they had a son. Julius and his family immigrated to Canada in the 1960’s where he reunited with his brother, Louis. He wrote a memoir called Apples at Christmas, that is a part of Confronting Devastation: Memoirs of Holocaust Survivors From Hungary. Throughout the rest of his life, Julius painted and wrote poetry. He died in 2014
