Anita Ekstein was born in Lwow, Poland on July 18, 1934. When the Nazis invaded eastern Poland in 1941, Anita and her parents are forced into a ghetto, from which her mother is killed. Anita’s father befriended a Catholic man, who smuggled Anita out of the ghetto and raised her and saved her life. After the war, Anita and her aunt immigrated to Paris, before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1948. In Toronto, Anita founded a group for child survivors of the Holocaust and has participated in the March of the Living 18 times. To this day she still lives in Toronto.
