John Freund was born in 1930 in Ceske Budejovice, Czechoslovakia. He was 9 when in 1939, he and his family were arrested and taken to Terezin concentration camp before being deported to Auschwitz death camp. He experienced many tragedies in Auschwitz such as Dr. Josef Mengeles Boys of Birkenau and the revolt of the Sonderkommando. After the war, John immigrated to Canada in 1948. He lives in Toronto and has been rebuilding his life ever since the war ended.
